Well Woman Screen

45 minutes appointment Women's Health

£350

A well woman screen is a consultation and pelvic ultrasound that reviews your gynaecological health, symptoms and screening history in one visit. At LPHG it costs £350, takes about 45 minutes and needs no GP referral. A consultant issues a written summary within 24 hours.

What this scan shows

  • A review of your symptoms, cycle and family history
  • A pelvic ultrasound of the uterus and ovaries
  • Whether cervical and breast screening are up to date
  • Fibroids, cysts or other findings that need follow-up
  • A tailored plan for any further tests or referrals
  • A baseline record of your gynaecological health

What it cannot show

  • A cervical screening result, which is a separate smear test
  • A breast diagnosis, which needs dedicated breast imaging
  • Whether a finding is cancerous, which requires further tests

A well woman screen brings a consultation and a pelvic ultrasound together in one visit, giving you a clear review of your gynaecological health and a plan for anything that needs following up.

At LPHG the screen is consultant-led, with a written summary available within 24 hours. If a finding needs specialist care, we can arrange onward referral.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in a well woman screen?

A consultation reviewing your symptoms and history, a pelvic ultrasound of the uterus and ovaries, and a plan for any further tests. A written summary follows within 24 hours.

Is a cervical smear included?

A smear is not part of the standard screen but can be added on request. The consultation will confirm whether your cervical screening is up to date.

Do I need a GP referral?

No. You can book a well woman screen directly. If anything needs onward care, we can refer you to the appropriate consultant.

How is this different from a pelvic ultrasound alone?

A pelvic ultrasound is the scan only. The well woman screen adds a consultation, a review of your screening history, and a personalised plan for follow-up.

When will I get my results?

A written summary is issued within 24 hours, and the main findings from your consultation and scan are explained to you at the appointment.
