Orthopaedic Surgeon Consultation

30 minutes appointment MSK & Orthopaedics

£250

An orthopaedic surgeon consultation is an assessment with a consultant surgeon of a bone, joint or soft-tissue problem, covering diagnosis and surgical and non-surgical options. At LPHG it costs £250 and needs no GP referral. Where imaging is needed, an ultrasound or onward MRI can be arranged, and you receive a written plan.

What this scan shows

  • A diagnosis or working diagnosis for your joint or limb problem
  • Whether surgery is likely to help
  • Non-surgical options such as injection or physiotherapy
  • The risks and benefits of any procedure
  • Advice on whether further imaging is needed
  • A clear surgical pathway if appropriate

What it cannot show

  • It is a clinical assessment, so a scan may be arranged separately
  • It cannot provide MRI findings on the day
  • It does not replace emergency care for acute fractures

Our orthopaedic surgeon consultation brings a consultant surgeon’s assessment and a clear plan together in one visit, in the Harley Street Medical District.

It weighs surgical and non-surgical options, and where imaging is needed an ultrasound or onward MRI can be arranged, with a written summary to follow.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a GP referral to see an orthopaedic surgeon?

No. You can book directly. If you have insurance, your insurer may still require a referral, so it is worth checking with them first.

How is this different from an orthopaedic consultation?

Both provide a consultant assessment and plan. This consultation is with a surgeon and is well suited if you are considering, or have been advised to consider, an operation.

Will I definitely need surgery?

Not necessarily. Many problems are managed without surgery, and the surgeon will explain all the options. Surgery is only recommended where it is likely to help.

Can the surgeon arrange my operation?

Yes. If surgery is the right option, the surgeon will explain it and arrange the appropriate pathway, including any pre-operative checks.

Will I get a written summary?

Yes. You receive a written summary of the assessment and the agreed plan, which you can share with your GP or insurer.
